August 8, 1878:
John drowned at the north pier Chicago on July 20. Papers found on his person proved him to have been a student of the institution for the deaf and dumb at Indianapolis. His body was recovered after 6 days and on Sunday night his father and brother, R. C. Vanderford of Cromwell, started to bring the body home. (Albion New Era) [USGenNet]
