April 1861: William joined Captain W. H.
Sim's Company at Mt. Tabor in Union County. His company joined the 15th S.C.V.
at Lightwood Knot Springs, Col. W. D. DeSaussure in command.

Mount Tabor in Company H, 15th South Carolina Infantry and served until the end

January 26 - February 2, 1863: William
was in General Hospital #18 in Richmond, Virginia with rheumatism.

July 2, 1863: William was with Kershaw's
Brigade, McLaw's Division, Longstreet's Corp., the first Brigade to enter the
battle for the "Rocky Knoll" and "Wheat Field" at Gettysburg.

March 29, 1869 (recorded April 6, 1869):
A. W. Thompson agreed to advance William such sums of money or supplies as were
necessary in the cultivation of his crop to the limit of $100. There was a lein
on the crop and payment was due October 1, 1869. [UC deed C21:332]

Thompson entered into an agreement similar to the year before. The limit was
