Josiah was farming in Tishomingo County (now Alcorn County), Mississippi. The value of his real property was $500. [census-Miss]

Josiah bought a 14 or 15 year old negro boy named Lewis for $1000. [AlC deed V:255]

January 1, 1860 (recorded December 12, 1860):
Josiah bought 1/2 acre in Section 36, Township 2, Range 8 for $400. He quit claimed this land April 15, 1861 to C. W. Bell and Brother. [AlC deeds W:449 & X:549]

Josiah was a farmer and lived in Tishomingo County (now Alcorn County), Mississippi with his wife, 3 sons and 3 daughters. Also living with them was Lucuz Cridson (male), a 31 year old school teacher. The value of his real property was $2,500 and personal property was $9,000. [census-Miss]

April 15, 1861 (recorded May 20, 1861):
Josiah quit claimed a half acre in the North West Quarter of Section 36, Township 2, Range 8 to C. W. Bell. [AlC deed X:549]

September 30, 1861 (recorded October 4, 1861):
Josiah bought Lot 14, Block 52 and Lots 9 and 10, Block 51 in the city of Corinth, Mississippi for $150. [AlC deed Y:52]

1864:
Josiah paid $10.82 in state taxes based on $200 in cash, a clock valued at $10, 14 head of cattle, 3 slaves under 15 valued at $1000, 3 male slaves valued at $3000 and a female slave valued at $700. [AlC pers prop tax]

January 7, 1867 (recorded September 21, 1881):
Josiah bought at public auction the North West Quarter of Section 36, Township 2, Range 8 East for $9.60. This land had belonged to Josiah and J. C. Oneal and was awarded to Wm Walker Helm in a judgement dated September 25, 1866. [AlC deed 8:429]

January 5, 1869 (recorded March 7, 1870):
Josiah sold a piece of land on the Jacinto and Corinth Road to Nathan Vanderford (9060) for $300.00. [AlC deed AA:484]

1870:
Josiah was farming in Alcorn County, Mississippi. The value of his real property was $1,280 and personal property was $1,380. [census-Miss]

September 15, 1870 (recorded March 12, 1872):
Josiah sold 120 acres in the South East Quarter of Section 17, Township 3, Range 8 East for $175.00. [AlC deed AA:626]

March 18, 1874 (recorded April 6, 1874):
Josiah sold the North West Quarter of Section 36, Township 2, Range 8 East for $100.00. [AlC deed 3:488-9]

July 28, 1874:
Josiah exchanged Lots 9 and 10 in Block 51 of the City of Corinth for Lots 11 and 12. [AlC deed 3:553-4]

January 26, 1875:
Josiah paid $13.84, the unpaid 1867 taxes for Lot 12, Block 51 in the City of Corinth, Mississippi. [AlC deed 5:21]

December 2, 1875:
Josiah bought Lot 14, Block 52 in the City of Corinth, Mississippi for $800. [AlC deed 4:266]

1880:
Josiah and his wife were farming in Alcorn County, Mississippi. His daughter Julia and her three children were living with them. [census-Miss]

November 5, 1880 (recorded November 11, 1880):
Josiah sold two parcels totalling 30 acres in Section 21, Township 3, Range 8 to his son Allen T. for $112.00. [AlC deed 7:523]

1885:
Josiah's grandchildren, Minnie, Arie and Archie were attending the Sandess School House in Alcorn County, Mississippi. [AlC sch]

1900:
Josiah's widow Louisa was living with her daughter Georgia Springer in Alcorn County, Mississippi. [census-Miss]
